From the listing:

This incredible property on Lake Megunticook has been our most well-received vacation rental since we signed on in 2008. Most of the guests indicated that they would be coming back and we expect weeks to book out quickly at this property. This is the lake property that will remind you of the movie On Golden Pond. A spectacular 17 acre island on desirable Megunticook Lake in Camden, this rare vacation rental home is probably one of the most special vacation opportunities in the Midcoast Maine area this summer.

Arriving in Camden, you`ll head to the Beaucaire Avenue area along the shore of Megunticook Lake where you`ll find the private parking area and mainland dock for Crane Island. You and your luggage will board a motor boat. You can choose from any of our available boats we have in inventory (subject to availability). Whichever boat you choose for the size of your group will be waiting for you at the dock. A representative from On the Water in Maine will meet you and take you on the short ride to your private island. (We’ve instructed and made expert boat operators in the past out of renters who had never even operated a boat before coming to Crane Island – so anyone can rent this property and a boat).

Upon arrival at the island, you will be motivated to immediately jump off the extensive dock system into the lake for a swim. Two kayaks, a canoe, and a small sailboat are also included with the rental of the Crane Island Lake Cottage.

Groceries can be delivered to the island prior to your arrival (one less thing to worry about) for a small fee. Just provide us your shopping list and they will be waiting for you at the property.

A 17 acre island, there is plenty of room to spread out and enjoy your private paradise. There is running water, electricity and telephone service to the island, so you will not be roughing it. The 4 bedroom main house is a comfortable place to prepare your meals and entertain your guests.

There is a Gas Grill on the deck as well as separate outdoor gas Turkey Fryer for boiling lobster or other seafood.

If you are hungry for Camden Village, restaurants, shopping, and civilization, just take your boat for the 3 minute ride back to your car and drive the 3 miles into town. You can be in downtown Camden within 15 minutes from leaving the main house at Crane Island. So, yes you are isolated, yet, so close to everything.

The main house consists of the older cottage built almost 70 years ago with a field stone fireplace, large open great room and a modern kitchen with plenty of natural light from the numerous skylights. The kitchen is fully equipped with a newer range, dishwasher, and other modern appliances.

The living room is filled with books and games you would expect to find in any lake vacation property. There is a TV with DVD player for watching movies (so rent or bring your favorites) – this is truly a property you come to get away and spend quality time with your family on the lake. The large deck and porch wraps around the house and overlooks the gardens and lake shore.

The cottage includes 4 bedrooms, a den with day bed and 2 full baths with stall showers. There is even an outdoor shower.

The island is a spectacular place to explore. A trail runs around the whole island and benches made from naturally placed rocks and split logs support various areas to plop down and read a book. The south end of the island features a nice sandy beach area with afternoon sun where you can stretch out on towels and even the youngest can wade safely in the water.

Just a few hundred yards across from the property to the nearest mainland is the Fernald`s Neck Preserve with several miles of walking trails in the woods. Just a short swim or paddle across the cove will get you to the nearest trail.

Camden Hills State Park is completely in view, as well as access to its over 38 miles of mountain hiking trails.

The dock system is extensive as the pictures show, but also at the main shore landing. There is plenty of room to tie up several boats and the whole dock system lights up at night.
