Bob Diamond’s Secret Brooklyn Subway Tunnel Tour

Meant to post this before, just getting around to it now. Still a very cool experience if you have a flashlight, a kid who loves trains, and 2 hours to kill…

On one of the coldest days of this year, my son and I finally went on the secret subway tunnel tour under Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. It’s led by Bob Diamond, who discovered the buried legend, against all odds, when he was a 19 year-old college student. I couldn’t begin to condense Bob’s incredible story, it’s just something any train lover (or, father of a train lover) needs to experience.

The entrance is smack in the middle of the intersection at Court & Atlantic. You go down this manhole…

Once down, you climb through some narrow passages like this one…

The space then opens to reveal a massive underground tunnel beneath Atlantic, spreading almost all the way to the water.
