A few weeks ago, author and organizational psychologist Noah Blumenthal launched a campaign to land his new book, BE THE HERO, on the New York Times Bestseller List, a lifelong goal.
He asked each of his friends to tap their social networks and spread the word: For every one of his books purchased on August 4th, he pledged to donate a portion of his royalties to the Miami Childern’s Hospital. If he makes the NY Times Bestseller List this week, he’s going to donate 100% of the week’s royalties to the hospital.
So far, it’s actually working.
By concentrating sales on August 4th, BE THE HERO shot up the Amazon ladder faster than any book that day. He passed everyone from Malcolm Gladwell to Steven Covey to Wayne Dyer to Harry Potter. Yesterday on Amazon, BE THE HERO became:
* Top 20 in all books
* #1 in Business
* #1 in Self-Help
* #1 in Success
* #1 in Careers
And then the calls started coming in to Noah’s publisher, McGraw Hill, from around the world.
Here’s an excerpt from the note Noah sent his friends this morning:
Thank you for helping make Be the Hero a HUGE SUCCESS!! I would like to share some very exciting news. We accomplished every goal we had for Amazon!!!!
I already reported that on Tuesday my publisher heard from two foreign rights publishers asking if they could purchase the rights to Be the Hero. Well apparently yesterday they woke up to over 2 dozen requests from all over the world. The languages represented were: Korean, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Arabic, Swedish, Italian, German, Dutch, Romanian, Portuguese, Danish, Spanish, Finnish, and Estonian.
How cool would it be to have the book published in Estonian? Anyway, that’s the latest fun fact about this journey.
The Request: We have sold over 1700 copies of Be the Hero this week. That is AMAZING!!! By getting onto the Amazon bestseller list we have already doubled my donation to the Miami Children’s Hospital from 25% of royalties to 50% of this week’s royalties. But that isn’t our final goal. We want to get to the NY Times and give away 100% of the royalties. To do that we think we need to sell around 500 more copies. That means if everyone just found 1 or 2 more people, we could make the NY Times.
Once again, thank you so much for your support in this effort.
– Noah
