Kings of Leon’s MTV Woodie of The Year Award Stolen From Leighton Meester & Cyndi Lauper

December 4, 2009 — 1

leighton_meester_cyndi_lauper-pg94213 ***TO CHECK OUT THE UPDATE TO HIS POST: CLICK HERE*** We made no announcement about the fact that a Woodie Award was stolen this year at the live show two weeks ago. First time it has happened. Near the end of the show -- just before Mary-Louise Parker introduced Jack White and The Dead Weather -- Leighton Meester and Cyndi Lauper took the stage to present the biggest award, the 2009 Woodie Of The Year. Kings of Leon won, which wasn't a surprise. They weren't able to make it to the show, so Cyndi and Leighton told the crowd they would except the award on Kings of Leon's behalf. Nuff said, done. Or...not done. Cyndi and Leighton were great, then they returned to the talent seating area to check out The Dead Weather's performance, which was incredible. But at some point, the Woodie Award itself was taken off their table. We couldn't find it. We still can't. When we heard it was missing, we asked staff to fan out and search the venue. We alerted security. Nothing, nada, whoever took it must've fled quickly before we noticed. Here's the deal -- I think we literally just found a camera that captured the fucker stealing the award from Leighton and Cyndi. I'm going to post it here asap. In the meantime, turn on MTV and watch the premiere of the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards at 10pm or, if you are as impatient as I am, you can watch the Woodies now. Pretty soon we're putting up the 360 degree camera that let's you watch the show online from any angle you wish....

Naked At Woodie Awards Rehearsal

December 1, 2009 — 0

The best thing about rehearsing for this year's Woodie Awards: Soundcheck for The Dead Weather. Jack White = Pure Genius. (Even though he wouldn't let me film it.) The second best thing about rehearsing for this year's show: The bike messengers Matt & Kim brought. Eight messengers followed Matt & Kim on bicycles from Brooklyn to the Roseland Ballroom. The plan was for Diplo to spin a wicked set, then Matt & Kim and the bike messengers would arrive at Roseland, ditch their bikes, blast onto the stage, and the messengers would undress to become a naked chorus. We are perfectionists, of course, so we just had to rehearse this over and over and over to make sure they were, you know, undressing at the right time and everything.... After their actual performance at the Woodies, Kim (Stolz) caught up with Matt & Kim. Matt got Kim to admit she likes getting naked more than she lets on. Then they talk about the size of Kim's chest... Set your tivo -- Woodies hit MTV this Friday night, December 4th, at 10pm.

Rehearsing In The Truck For Janelle Monae

November 25, 2009 — 0

Here's Woodies Senior Producer Tracy Hellerud in action as she captains the control room during rehearsals. We were in the middle of working on an effect for Janelle Monae's voice. In the show, Janelle comes out dressed (and sounding like) she's from the future, introducing hip-hop artists Clipse, who are then joined by special guests Cam'ron and Rick Ross. Here's Janelle arriving at the Woodies red carpet... Janelle-Monae-93203264 The mtvU Woodie Awards will be broadcast on MTV, MTV2 and Palladia on Friday night, December 4th, at 10pm.

Setting Up The Bar At The Woodie Awards

November 22, 2009 — 0

Mary-Louise Parker, Amber Tamblyn, Zooey Deschanel, Leighton Meester...we had to make sure they could each drink as much as they wanted to at the Woodie Awards last week. Besides the performances, massive consumption of alcohol is a hallmark of the Woodies. So I was happy to have helped set up the bar, and my dad will be impressed I came even this close to a power tool...

Building The Set For Last Night’s Woodie Awards

November 19, 2009 — 0

Tom Lenz's set design for this year's Woodie Awards was more ambitious than we'd ever attempted. And it turned out to be my favorite he's ever done for us.   The build was kinda intense. Once we are done cutting the show (it airs at 10pm December 4th on MTV, MTV2, mtvU and Palladia, we'll really get to show everyone how beautiful the set looked in our cameras.  Here's a peek at the set being built on Tuesday and Wednesday.... woodiessetbuild1 woodiessetbuild2 woodiessetbuild3 woodiesetbuild4 woodiessetbuild5
