The New “Combat Paper” Exhibit At Newark Public Library

Powerful, haunting and important exhibit up now at the Newark Public Library, curated by Jared Ash, featuring the work of US war veterans who have pulped their combat uniforms and turned them into works of art.

The show had been rumored for a while, and finally it’s here. A bold move for Newark Public Library, a treasure deep in the heart of Newark.

Ash is the same curator responsible for MOMA’s Russian Avant-Garde show a few years ago, one of the most memorable exhibits I’ve ever seen. Now Ash runs “special collections” at the Newark Public Library, overseeing a venerable collection of historic documents and art.

I’ve been to Jared Ash’s shows at NPL before — they have a way of mesmerizing you when you walk in and begin experiencing the worlds he brings to life, and then inhabiting you the minute you leave.
